A New Sweetener
For Diabetics

The name of it is SlimSweet, and here is the way it is billed:  "TriMedica's SlimSweet is an incredible exciting new sweetener that provides benefits no other sweetener can! Now everyone can enjoy SlimSweet's great sweet taste without worrying about calories, cholesterol, weight gain or harmful insulin surges caused by other sweeteners (even natural ones). With SlimSweet, you'll never eat sugar again!"

I personally feel that advertising to be exaggerated.
And here is more advertising to go with it.

A bottle of the Sweet StuffI found out about SlimSweet from my chiropractor, or maybe it was his wife.  If I had known how expensive it was I never would have tried it at all.  2.82 ounces costs $16.95 but it looks like everyone on the web is automatically discounting it to $7.95  Even that low price would still be too high for me to have knowingly given it a try since I would NEVER spend that much for just 2.82 ounces of some unknown sugar substitute.

But the fact is, I did try SlimSweet.  The first thing I did was quit thinking of it as a sugar substitute and think of it as something better than sugar.  Here's the skinny on SlimSweet the way I see it:

In spite of manufacturer protests to the contrary, SlimSweet does NOT taste like sugar to me.  And, I'm glad of it.  If it tasted like sugar, sooner or later I'd go back to dumping real sugar into my system.

This is not sugar.  Nor does it act like sugar.  But it is a sweetener.

Take a bowl of unsweetened cereal you would normally put three teaspoons of sugar on to sweeten and you would use about 1/5 teaspoon of SlimSweet instead of three teaspoons of sugar.  The result would NOT taste as sweet as three teaspoons of sugar, BUT, going to 1/2 teaspoon of SlimSweet did not increase the sense of sweetness a bit for my taste buds.

On the plus side, it improved the flavor of every thing I ate, with absolutely no after taste. After it goes down I don't have any trouble keeping it down.  Baking or boiling doesn't seem to destroy the sweetness either.

I've tried all that other sugar substitute stuff;  It belongs in the garbage.  Saccharine just about kills me to even look at it.  Equal leaves a whang in my throat after it has gone down; in hot chocolate it doesn't even wait until it goes down before introducing that dirty whang.  As for soda pop sweetened with a sugar substitute, one would do me a year.   As for Aspartame?  Click HERE.

I can easily see drinking an orange, grape, or root beer pop sweetened with SlimSweet though.

"How Is SlimSweet Different From Other Sugars And Sweeteners?

Most people donąt realize that common sweeteners such as table sugar, honey, brown sugar, high fructose corn syrup, Stevia and artificial sweeteners such as Equal and Sweet ON Low are all high glycemic, which means they WILL elevate insulin and blood sugar (glucose) levels. Elevated insulin and glucose levels encourages the body to store fat and greatly increases your chances of developing serious illnesses.

"SlimSweet is 15 times sweeter than sugar but is low glycemic and does not elevate insulin or blood sugar levels. SlimSweet is also thermogenic, which means that it helps burn stored fats without adding calories."

Now that's out of the way.  What about the rest of the claims?  I have no way of gauging calories, cholesterol, or weight gain so leave me out of that discussion.  When it comes to insulin surges I was able to measure results and can tell you for sure that insulin spikes did not happen when I used SlimSweet.  That news is good enough, but there's better news.  On those first days when I used SlimSweet, my sugar level plunged dramatically with exercise where before it had always risen alarmingly.  (Yeah, I know; that's backwards from most diabetics.)

Again, let's put this into perspective here.  All I did was ADD SlimSweet to what I was already eating and my sugar level went DOWN.  For example, where I was eating oatmeal made out of cardboard WITHOUT any kind of sweetener at all, I added SlimSweet and my sugar level went down.  The oatmeal became more edible too.

Results almost as good were obtained by adding SlimSweet to products already naturally sweet, like apples.  When I added some, my sugar levels went down -- not nearly as much, but still, my sugar levels went down.  I was impressed.

Furthermore, my cravings for sugar saturated goodies was greatly reduced.  If you're diabetic you know the times I mean, when the ONLY thing you want to eat MUST have sugar in it.  When a sugar craving hits me these days I can swirl up some SlimSweet in a glass of simple water and drink it down with a smile instead of a shudder. My craving will virtually stop in a matter of minutes.  Now, that's worth any price.

It wasn't the results that sold me on SlimSweet; it was the taste that sold me.

You know as well as I do that SlimSweet might not do you a nickel's worth of good; if you are as cheap as I am you'll never try it. That won't hurt my feelings any as it obviously makes good sense.  I'm not endorsing this product, merely passing on facts as I found them to result from actual use.  Your results will probably differ widely.

Now if you do try SlimSweet and if you do like it enough to go on using it, I would urge you to use this change as a transition period.  For example, quit putting ANY kind of sweetener in your cocoa.  The fact is, cocoa tastes better without sweetener. The Aztecs didn't bother with sweetener, you don't have to either.  Quit putting any kind of sweetener in your Raisin Bran.  Leave the sweetener out and you can taste the raisins.  Don't put any sweetener on your Crispy Rice.  If your unsweetened cereal doesn't taste better without added sweetener, add some cinnamon to it, or as a last resort, some vanilla flavoring.  Quit putting any kind of sweetener in your salad dressing.  Wait a minute, I'm getting carried away with my own enthusiasm on that one.  You really need SOMETHING in that salad dressing to make salad edible.  Other than that, use the SlimSweet only where absolutely necessary to make the food stay down, like on your broccoli.

Now, one last caution.  SlimSweet comes in two forms, in packets like you see at restaurants, and in a shaker bottle.  Stay away from that shaker bottle if you live in a damp climate.  SlimSweet in the shaker bottle turns into a thick mush you'll have to carve out with a very tiny spoon.

Or maybe you can negotiate a sweet deal from your local chiropractor like I do.

One more thing you might do to keep your cravings down, put a spot of apple cider vinegar in a glass of WHITE grapefruit juice and drink it any time you think you are "hungry for sugar".  This tip comes from the free book, Sweeten Your Life with Vinegar.
